Maryam Law and The New Prime Minister

  Khurram Dastagir

With the consequences of Panama leaks still unfolding, the government is constantly losing options to save the Premiership of Nawaz Sharif. The Prime Minister also went through a lengthy heart surgery in London, from which he will take some time to recover completely and he might not be in a good state of health to lead the country.

Meanwhile Pakistan, in a transition stage is trying to decide, where exactly to take a stand on terrorism and where not to. The problems with neighbors, CPEC, strained relations with U.S and numerous internal matters are some issues Pakistan has to address. In such a scenario the presence of a P.M is crucial and absence a glitch.

Speculators believe that after a long internal tussle in the Sharif family ( Between Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shehbaz), Kuurram Dastagir was mutually agreed upon to take charge as the P.M, incase if Nawaz Sharif had to step down.
Dastagir holds an important standing in PMLN. He not only accompanied and stayed with Nawaz Sharif in London, putting aside the people of his constituency, he was also present in Nawaz-Zardari meetings and he is also well aware of the trade dealings with India.
Meanwhile government is leaving no stone un turned to amend the income tax laws and include it in the finance bill. Which is pretty easy considering the fact that it has a simple majority in the parliament.
Commenting on this, Chairman Finance Committee Senate and PPP leader, Saleem Mundi Wala said that doing so it will imply that if someone has an offshore company or trust outside the country and is not receiving any benefits from it then there is no need to declare it.
The opposition is already calling this law as Maryam Law, since Maryam is one of the main beneficiary.

Arif Alvi of PTI has said that the government has verbally assured that this law will not be introduced, but he doesn’t trust them.
